Proteins, carbohydrates and even vegetables: all the good nutritional reasons to replace your bowl of breakfast cerealsby one piece of pizza ! Are you grimacing? Yet, according to American dietitian Chelsey Amer interviewed by The Daily Meal, “a medium slice of pizza and a bowl of cereal with whole milk contains almost the same amount of calories but the pizza contains a much higher volume of protein, which allows you to last throughout the morning without cravings”.
More balanced than a bowl of…sugar!
Of course, there is no question for the dietician to make pizza a “health food”: “It’s definitely not the most nutritious option. But, compared to a bowl of cereal which is really just tablespoons of sugar, it’s a more balanced meal” she explains.
If the idea of a slice of pizza for breakfast appeals to you, it is always possible to make it more balanced, by garnishing it with thin slices of grilled vegetables (zucchini, eggplant or peppers) and having a hand light on the cheese!
