In a report published this Friday, July 5, 2019, the General Directorate for Competition, Consumption and Fraud Control (DGCCRF) announced a recall of potatoes marketed by the company Parmentine SA and distributed at Auchan and Lidl .
The reason ? An “exceeding of the maximum residue limit on the fosthiazate molecule of certain products”, according to the site of the producer. Which recalls that “the presence of a contaminant in a quantity greater than the maximum residue limit authorized in a foodstuff does not systematically induce a risk for a person who would have to consume it occasionally”.
Fosthiazate is a pesticide which is used in the composition of insecticides, in particular used as protection products against insects in potato crops in France. However, this substance presents a “moderate toxicity” (US EPA) for health.
