It all starts at the beginning of December 2021. A 57-year-old woman is admitted to the Emergency Department of the Raymond-Poincaré hospital in Garches (in Hauts-de-Seine): she is suffering from a severe form of Covid-19. She was probably infected by her 13-year-old son, infected shortly before, in college.
The mother of the family assures the nursing staff that she has benefited from a complete vaccination schedule against infection with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus: to prove it, she presents an apparently valid vaccination certificate.
Unfortunately, despite rapid medical care (and the absence of medical history and comorbidities), the woman’s state of health deteriorates: Covid-19 evolves towards severe respiratory damage.
To be sure, the healthcare team therefore carries out additional examinations – including a search for antibodies against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. Surprise: the caregivers understand that the fifty-year-old has never been vaccinated against Covid-19…
“It is fundamental to assume when you decide not to be vaccinated”
Questioned, the husband of the patient recognizes the fraud: in August, his wife bought a false vaccination certificate from a doctor in Nice, in order not to lose her job as a hostess. “My wife didn’t want me to say it. (…) She was afraid of legal proceedings“explained the father of the family to our colleagues from BFMTV.
Armed with this new information, the healthcare team tries to adapt the treatment given to the patient. In vain: the woman dies in the hospital shortly after her admission.
A fake vaccination certificate”can falsely direct the doctor who takes care of you“explained Pr. Djillali Annane, head of the intensive care unit at Garches hospital, to our colleagues from France News. Indeed: if the patient had recognized from the start that she was not vaccinated against Covid-19, the healthcare team could have “give them early neutralizing antibodies, which are known to be effective in reducing the risk of disease progression“.
“It is fundamental to assume until the end when one decides not to be vaccinated, because the knowledge by the doctor of this information can sometimes change the way in which one supports” warns us Pr. Djillali Annane.
