Be more vigilant with your children on the way to school! This is undoubtedly the conclusion to be drawn from an Opinionway study published on Monday by the association. Prevention insurers specializing in actions to prevent and raise awareness of everyday accidents. Carried out on a sample of 2,066 people aged 18 and over, representative of the French population, the results have something to call out to parents, but above all to worry children! In fact, three out of four parents admit to having been reckless in accompanying their children to save time.
40% of those questioned admit having already crossed outside protected crossings, 32% having already called while walking, 24% having walked on the road rather than on the sidewalks, and 18% having crossed when the pedestrian light is red.
Regarding the justification for these reckless acts, adults mainly evoke the time saving generated, whether it is for crossing the street outside the reserved passages (38%) or when the pedestrian light is red (49%) .
In addition, they use their phones while walking to answer an urgent call (49%).
Assureurs Prévention has chosen the start of the school year to massively broadcast its “Pedestrian” spot on all channels until September 8, 2013.
For Bernard Spitz, its president, “The trip to school is a privileged moment to pass on good gestures to your children. As this study shows, too many parents engage in risky behavior. Our challenge is to make them aware of their influence on the attitude of their children. So that these children, when they become parents, in turn pass on a good example. ”
In 2011, 485 pedestrians were killed in a traffic accident, or 13% of the total road fatalities. In the same year, 12,000 pedestrians were also injured, nearly a quarter of whom were under the age of 15!
