“June 8, 2017 I show my feet”. The campaign slogan of the French Union for Foot Health (UFSP) for National Foot Health Day invites attention to an often neglected part of the body. The French are invited to take advantage of this awareness day to show their feet to a podiatrist during a free consultation. The operation, organized each year, is offered in around a hundred podiatry practices. The list of consultation places is available on the site http://sante-du-pied.org/les-actions-de-prevention-pres-de-chez-vous.html.
For those who are not used to having their feet checked, this is an opportunity to learn more about the right actions to take care of their feet (pedicure), to receive personalized advice for possible sores (corns on the feet, calluses, yeast infection, ingrown toenail …) or to have a prescription for plantar orthotics (orthopedic device).
Going to the podiatrist, a more frequent approach
Seeing a podiatrist is a more frequent reflex than before: nearly one in two people (49.6%) consulted a podiatrist in 2016 against 30% in 2012, according to The 2016 National Foot Health Survey in France. Taking care of your feet is not a trivial act knowing that 61% of people examined said they felt pain in their feet in 2016 (compared to 68% in 2011).
