Paint gets a new lick of paint in Windows 11

Paint has been the standard drawing program of Windows for many years and can therefore not be missed on Windows 11. This includes a refreshed interface, which Microsoft is now unveiling for testers of the upcoming operating system.

Most striking are the round corners, with which Paint connects to the other windows in Windows 11. The round shapes are also reflected in the icons, for example of the ink colors.

In addition, the background color of the main window automatically adapts to the chosen theme and desktop background. A dark theme will follow at a later stage, which can be set separately for Paint.

Almost on the chopping block

Actually, it is not so obvious that Paint is still in Windows. A few years ago, Microsoft planned to remove the old-fashioned software (already since Windows 1.0) from Windows 10. The idea behind that was that with the arrival of Paint 3D there was a worthy successor to it and that two Paint versions in Windows side by side would be confusing.

The company counted on so much criticism online that the ‘old’ version of Paint was allowed to remain. And now also making the switch to Windows 11.

Windows 11 release date

If you are a Windows Insider and you are already running Windows 11, the renewed Paint can now be downloaded as an update. It remains to be seen whether this variant is also part of the first consumer version of Windows 11, which will be released on October 5.
