At last ! While its American equivalent, the Rogue, was unveiled in June 2020, the fourth X-Trail of the name gives us an appointment on April 5, 2022 to discover its European version. In return, only the original E-Power hybrid version of the Nissan family SUV will be offered here.
Between the new Honda Civic and the fourth generation of Nissan X-Trail, there are more commonalities than it seems. While these two Japanese models have been roaming the roads of North America for many months, their marketing here is still pending. It must be said that, for their respective manufacturers, the Old Continent is no longer really a priority. But, in either case, the arrival in concessions begins all the same to approach. A few days after the compact Honda sedan, the Nissan family SUV is preparing to unveil its European version on April 5, 2022.
A hybrid like no other
Question style, no need to expect surprises. The X-Trail will keep the same look as the Chinese version, revealed in April 2021, or its American equivalent, the Rogue, which appeared in June 2020. The main difference is under the hood that you will have to look for it… like for the Civic again! For lack of diesel, now banned by the brand on its SUVs, priority will be given to the new e-Power hybrid version. It should even be the only one offered here. Available for several years in Japan, this technology specific to Nissan is about to land for the first time in Europe. His particuliarity ? Unlike those of the Ford Kuga, Toyota RAV4 or Honda CR-V, the internal combustion engine never drives the wheels here. This task is only entrusted to two electric motors, one for the front axle, the other for the rear axle.
An all-wheel drive evoking the Ariya
Unlike the future Qashqai e-Power, which uses a similar system but with a single 190 hp electric motor at the front, the X-Trail will in this way benefit from all-wheel drive, called e-4ORCE as on the Ariya 100% electric. As to four-cylinder 1.5 turbo-petrol, very sophisticated with its variable compression ratio, it only serves as a generator, rotating at a fairly constant speed. A small battery of approximately 2 kWh completes this very special hybridization by providing the buffer function. The future match with the cousin Renault Austral 7-seater E-Tech hybrid, equipped with a totally different engine designed by the engineers of Losange, already looks very interesting.
More details to come on April 5
See you now on April 5, 2022 on largus.fr to discover in detail this European version of the X-Trail, which will be marketed this summer and still available in a seven-seater version. Nissan already gave a taste at the end of March in Madrid by exhibiting a version with a camouflaged grille. Hoping that Nissan agrees to reveal all its characteristics from the start, in particular CO emissions2 and the consumption of its e-Power engine. Although the brand claims that it “offers the pleasure of fully electric driving without any charging constraints”, it will be far from being able to aim for “zero exhaust emissions”. Because already the Qashqai e-Power, although less heavy, is announced at 119 g/km of CO2 and 5.3 l/100 km.
