Mark Zuckerberg has announced the new virtual reality headset, Meta Quest Pro, for October this year.
The development has been going on for a while and is known as Project Cambria. This working name will probably be exchanged for Meta Quest Pro. The device will be released in October, Mark Zuckerberg said in The Joe Rogan Podcast.
Meta organizes the event “Connect” every year. It is expected that the Zuck will show the latest gadget to the world here.
Virtual reality
Zuckerberg gave away the launch when the podcast was about virtual reality. He indicated that the next device, which will be released in October, has a few major features.
You will soon have the opportunity to have a kind of eye contact in virtual reality. He can track your face because your avatar isn’t just a static, stationary thing. If you smile, frown, pout, or whatever your expression is, the new headset can translate this to your avatar in real time.
Furthermore, he does not reveal much, but we already know that there is a high-res color screen in the Meta Quest Pro and augmented reality where you have the feeling that you are in the middle of a virtual world. And let Meta be busy building such a world under the name Metaverse. Although opinions about Metaverse are still somewhat divided at the moment.
Expensive gadget
Mark has not released anything about the price yet, but because it will be a luxury device, it will not be cheap. It is expected that cheaper versions will come later, because a total of four have been announced. The Metaverse must of course be accessible to as many people as possible.
The current Quest costs about $400 and that probably means the Pro will be a lot above that. In addition, not only Meta is working hard with VR glasses. The PlayStation VR2 is also in development and Apple’s turtlenecks are also busy with it. The expectations for virtual worlds such as the Metaverse are therefore high.
Curious how this will develop in the near future and whether people are also waiting for it. Perhaps this is also something that we all seem to need, without being aware of it already.
