Better distributing the proportion of omega-3 and omega-6 would be a solution to lose weight, according to the results of a study published in the medical journal Open Heart. The ratio between these two essential fatty acids would be one of the keys to food balance and a healthy weight.
American researchers conducted a study on the evolution of the consumption of omega-3 and 6 and the consequences on health. The Western diet is unbalanced. People consume up to 16 times more omega-6 than omega-3.
Too much omega-6 promotes weight gain
For our health, the study reveals that it is necessary to replace omega-3 fatty acids at the center of our diet and reduce the amount of omega-6 we consume, by changing the cooking oil and by eating more fish and less meat.
“It is better to work on restoring the balance between omega-6 and omega-3 in our diet rather than continuing to follow official nutritional policies and recommendations, which focus on calories and energy expenditure. and have failed miserably over the past 30 years, ”according to Drs Artemis Simopoulos, founding physician of the Center for Genetics, Nutrition and Health (Washington), and James DiNicolantonio of Saint Luke’s Mid America Heart Institute (Kansas City).

To reverse this ratio and consume more omega-3 than omega-6, simply change the vegetable oils of corn, sunflower, safflower, cotton and soybeans for those of grape seed, rapeseed, perilla, nuts or of chia, favor fish over meat and enhance your oilseed dishes (nuts, almonds) and green leafy vegetables (cabbage, spinach, watercress).
