Microsoft to test experimental Windows 11 features

Windows 11 is getting a bigger update than usual this month. And meanwhile, Microsoft is already looking further ahead in 2022.

Microsoft plans to test more experimental features for Windows 11 in the coming year. Those features initially come to testers within the so-called Insiders program, which you have to sign up for. Through this program, Microsoft tests Windows components that sometimes, but not always, come to all users.

Experimental Features for Windows 11

Amanda Langowski, head of that program at Microsoft, tells in a blog that not all features yet to be tested will be rolled out to everyone. So keep in mind that sometimes news can appear about a cool or useful feature that is tested for Windows 11, but then never arrives.

It seems certain that there will be a lot of news about new functions. Many Windows enthusiasts accurately record which features Microsoft adds or test and often quickly discover hidden options. Those parts then automatically appear in the news, so that various media pick it up; so it goes like wildfire.

This is also something Langowski partly acknowledges in her blog. “We are aware that the more technical testers sometimes discover features that are disabled. Those functions are deliberately disabled, because we don’t want to focus on them when an update appears. Sometimes we are looking for feedback on specific options.”

Within the Insiders program there are two channels: the Dev Channel and the Beta Channel. The Dev Channel contains mostly experimental features, while the Beta Channel offers options that are likely to come to all users.
