Internet Explorer 11 was released back in 2013. That is a really long time, especially in this technological period where innovations come quickly. Microsoft released the first version of the Explorer in 1995. Now the company has made the decision to discontinue support.

If you still use the browser for the internet, it will become a lot more unstable. Microsoft stops namely tomorrow with much of the support for the browser. So it’s over and out on June 15th, then the company will stop support on Windows 10 Semi Annual Channel. This means that the browser is no longer supported on Windows 10 October 2020 Update and later versions of Windows 10. In addition, support on Windows 10 IoT 20H2 will also end. Windows Edge will be the default browser from then on.
Some server versions will continue to run. IE will also continue to be supported on old operating systems and software with long-term support. These are Windows 8.1, Windows 7 with Extended Security Updates, Windows Server LTSC, Windows Server 2022, Windows 10 LTSC, and Windows 10 IoT LTSC. Microsoft will also continue to support the browser on multiple Windows Embedded versions. IE will continue to receive security updates on those systems.

Microsoft is completely focused on their other browser, which is Edge. After the end of support for Explorer, the company will start redirecting people to this browser. In a next phase, an update will appear that permanently disables the browser. Then it really is the end of the exercise.
