While Mercedes prepares the restyling of the GLE, expected for the fall of 2022, discover now the novelties to be expected with the “phase 2” of the German SUV. The aesthetic evolutions promise to be discreet.
[Mis à jour le 24/12/2021] The second Mercedes GLE of the name having made its debut in the fall of 2018, its restyling is expected for the fall of 2022. The latest achievements of the brand with the star, as well as some “spy” photos of camouflaged prototypes, allow us already imagine what the German SUV should look like in its phase 2. The developments will be very discreet.

A rearranged front panel
The GLE’s front lights might thin out slightly inward, giving the vehicle a sharper “look”. A new light signature could be discovered inside these optical units. Below, the shield of versions not equipped with the AMG Line pack should ditch its large continuous dummy air intake for several textured black elements, separated by body uprights emphasizing the grille. This could take the vertical slat pattern seen on some versions of the recent C-Class.

The changes look even more timid at the rear, where a new design of LED lighting within fires of similar shape should be the only noticeable change. New rim styles, body colors and upholstery finishes should also enrich the options catalog.

Mainly hybridized engines
In France, the range of engines was recently revised with a new 272 hp four-cylinder diesel engine for the 300 d version. This engine, associated with a 48V 20 hp starter-alternator, indirectly replaces the old 350 d variant whose six-cylinder power was 272 hp. The GLE 400 d diesel (330 hp) will also adopt 48V micro-hybridization.

The restyled GLE range will therefore be essentially composed of micro-hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions in gasoline as in diesel. The 63 light hybridization variant signed AMG may not be presented until a few months after the rest of the lineup. It currently offers 612 hp (+ 22 electric hp), a power that could be revised upwards in order to remain at the level of the future restyled Porsche Cayenne, in particular in the Coupé body.
