As their name suggests, meal replacements are intended to replace one (or more) meals, while providing fewer calories, ie between 240 and 400 cal per “meal”. The principle is not educational: with them, we do not learn to eat better real food, we eat something else, supposed to bring us all nutrients necessary for the body. They mainly come in the form of creams (often chocolate flavored), bars or soups. Even if their composition respects European directives, the first two are generally too sweet, the last, more acceptable from a nutritional point of view, but not from a taste or sensory level. They don’t learn to come to terms with food. In addition, all lack fiber, omega 3, protective nutrients: we are far from a pleasant, vitamin, fresh, seasonal meal … It is the realm of uniformity of taste, of flavor.additive and industrial product. It is stipulated on the label, according to the regulations, that these products are to be used once or twice a day (instead of one or two meals, therefore), for a maximum of three weeks. Unless your doctor recommends it, it is better to use them only very exceptionally and not more than once a day.
