Alternative to Ritalin?
Do you suffer from ADHD, ADD, stress, anxiety, depression, insomnia or nerves? LTO3 is a dietary supplement that seems to be able to help against all kinds of psychological complaints. What is in it and what is already known about it?
LTO3 comes from Canada. There it has been used for about ten years by people with ADD and ADHD. It is not so well known in the Netherlands.
The ingredients
There are three ingredients in LTO3:
- L-Theanine
- Fish roe extract (sementis)
- blue skullcap
L-Theanine is an amino acid found in tea leaves. A calming effect is attributed to this. It is not only in LTO3, but also in other supplements and products that are said to have a relaxing effect.
Sementis is an infusion of wild herring roe from the Atlantic Ocean. This appears to reduce fatigue. It also contains a lot of omega-3 fatty acids. These fish fatty acids are more often used in people who suffer from ADHD. There is no scientific proof that they work, but they can’t hurt either.
skullcap or scutellaria lateriflora is a plant of the mint family. The above-ground part of this plant is used in LTO3. It is said to have a calming effect and reduce stress and anxiety. It also relieves nerves, nerve pain and insomnia, according to the manufacturer of LTO3. These positive effects have not been scientifically proven either.
How to use?
LTO3 are capsules with powder, which are supplied in a jar. The capsules are easy to open, so that the powder can be mixed with water if necessary. You can also easily swallow the capsules in one go. If you weigh more than 45 kilograms, you should take three capsules a day, 10 minutes before breakfast. If you weigh under 45 kilograms, you need two capsules a day. There are 90 pieces in a jar. A jar is good for 30 to 45 days.
If you start with LTO3 you may not notice the effect right away. When the effect does become visible differs per person. This varies from 30 minutes to several days. It is also possible that you hardly notice it or not at all.
Some people use LTO3 as a natural alternative to medications like Ritalin and Concerta. They indicate that due to its good effect, they were able to reduce their normal medication and sometimes eventually stop. Annoying side effects of medication such as Ritalin also disappeared. However, LTO3 is not a proven replacement for medication like Ritalin. Ritalin has been scientifically proven to be effective for some people with ADHD and this is not the case with LTO3.
Effects
According to the manufacturer, few side effects are reported and LTO3 is not harmful in combination with other drugs. Anyone over the age of three can take it. It works for about eight to ten hours during the day and is not addictive. There is also no rebound effect, whereby the complaints get worse after the effect. However, LTO3 can aggravate the complaints during the first three days after start of swallowing.
Disadvantage
The downside to LTO3 is that it is very expensive. There is currently only one insurance company in the Netherlands that reimburses it.
Another objection is that the effect of LTO3 has not been scientifically proven. There are many sites with positive reactions and explanations about the drug, but many of them also sell the drug. So this information is not very reliable.
Inquiries with a number of specialists revealed that little is known about this drug. You will find a lot of advertising, but no scientifically substantiated evidence for the effect of LTO3.
