Locavore: farms, small producers, associations …
Better traceability, quality products ripe to perfection or aged with care, a direct link with the producers, this is what those who are called “locavores” aspire to. You know, these “consumers’ actors” who have decided to eliminate pineapples with an insane environmental impact from their plates, who closely monitor the origin of their oranges and who do not hesitate, for the most committed, to get supplies only from neighboring farms.
Farms, small producers, associations …
Their credo? Favor short distribution channels. The more they buy directly from local producers, the more they limit pollution and the less they fatten up the intermediaries (transporters, wholesalers, supermarkets, etc.). An ecological, economical and fair mode of consumption, therefore, to which more and more French people adhere.
In 2010, 71% said it was important for them to buy local products *. However, in practice, it is not so easy because, on the supply side, the choice is limited in our usual stores.
” The market share of short circuits today only reaches 1 to 3%, while demand could cover 10 to 20% of the market. », Observes Lionel Astruc, co-author of« Manger local ». So that eating local and seasonal is no longer a priesthood, here are some ideas that are easy to implement!

Locavore: join a network
• By joining an Amap, Association for the maintenance of a peasant agriculture, you agree to buy, over six months or one year, the fruit of the harvest of a producer installed nearby. Each week, you pick up your basket, often seasonal vegetables and fruits, but also eggs, cheeses, etc. either directly from the operator or from a place where he makes the delivery.
• By addressing the Jardins de Cocagne. All over France, they distribute weekly baskets. In solidarity, these organic labeled vegetable farms are cultivated by people in professional reintegration.
• By buying on the Net… Sites such as “Le Campanier” in Ile-de-France, “Ma Terre” around Marseille, “Les Paniers bio de l’Ouest” near Nantes… indicate the origin of their products and offer you the opportunity to compose your own organic basket, delivered to a relay point near you.

Locavore: take advantage of the pop-up markets
• Do you know PVC? No, not plastic, but “collective points of sale”. Local producers gather there and take turns ensuring the permanence of their community shop. There is no national organization yet, but you will find the closest PVCs to you by contacting the chamber of agriculture. A good way to support small businesses!
• The “Paniers frais du Transilien” stands, these market gardeners installed on the platforms of around 40 stations in Ile-de-France sell their crops directly to users and without subscription.

Animating a beehive
• Coming together to “eat better, eat just” is the idea behind “La Ruche qui dit oui”. By registering, you become a co-producer. The deal? Make your home, your garage or any other place, the relay point between your “hive” made up of friends, neighbors, colleagues, and producers in your region. In exchange, they deliver their food to you at a fair price and without subscription constraint. One-off or regular purchases, it’s up to you!
• How it works ? As a manager, you are responsible for recruiting suppliers (market gardeners, cheese makers, etc.). You will need a little time and some “commercial” sense. For this, the site team supports you by phone, provides a directory of producers and offers you a short training. Once the partnerships are fixed, the hard part is done. The operators undertake to post personalized offers every week on the virtual wall of your hive, an interface that you can animate by organizing aperitifs, exceptional sales …
Your community (at least thirty people) has four days to place an order, depending on the minimum quantity set by the producer. If this minimum is reached, then the hive says “yes” and the order is validated. Everyone pays for their purchases online and picks them up. The delivery takes place the following Saturday and the producers give you a hand with the distribution.
