According to a study conducted by a team of researchers at the University of North Carolina in the United States, being addicted to sports could have a negative impact on men’s libido.
Risk of loss of libido and infertility?
Here is information that may be of interest to men who practice regular and intensive physical activity: too much exercise can dampen libido. This is in any case what reveals a study published in the journal Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise. According to these studies, sport acts on sex hormones and therefore on fertility and libido.
To reach this conclusion, the researchers followed more than 1,000 men who they asked to answer a questionnaire on their sports and sexual habits. Among these participants, a certain number practiced running and cycling. Analyzing the responses, the researchers found that the more they exercised, the more the libido of men was reduced. In contrast, men who engaged in moderate physical activity had a better sexual appetite.
Heat reduces sperm count
But that’s not all. Intensive sport could also be implicated in cases of male infertility. According to the authors of this study, doing intensive physical activity significantly reduces the number of sperm in semen. This is particularly the case with men who cycle a lot and expose their testicles to high temperatures on a regular basis.
Do not let this article cause lazy people to prefer the sofa to running. As the World Health Organization (WHO) reminds us, practicing 2h30 of sport per week is the best way to stay in good health and to fight effectively against diabetes and obesity. On the other hand, if you do 5 to 6 hours of cycling or running a week, consider slowing down your pace a little if you want to regain your sexual appetite.
