According to’National Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health Safety (ANSES), the dietary reference values for the population (RNP) for vitamin C in adults – updated in 2016 – are 110 milligrams (mg) per day for both men and women.

According to’Agency for research and information on fruit and vegetables (Aprifel), lemon is low in calories (27.6 kcal per 100 grams) and rich in vitamin C, i.e. 45 mg per 100 grams.

Another benefit: the citric acid contained in the lemon and therefore the juice of this fruit and which contributes to better digestion. This substance helps in particular in the decomposition of food, which facilitates the absorption of nutrients by the body.
Losing weight
On the other hand, for those who wish to lose weight, lemon can also be your ally. A study published in 2015 in the journal Nutrition Researchexplains that its consumption, via mixtures, would help to lose weight and reduce body fat.
Less heart disease
Consumers of lemon water – but also other citrus fruits – also have a lower risk of having heart disease according to a study published in 2019 in the journal Oxid Med Cell Longev.

But how often should you drink lemon water to enjoy all these benefits? Every day ! But on condition that it is well diluted with water to reduce the acidity which can be harmful, and not to risk dehydration because lemon is also a diuretic. So be sure to stay hydrated at the same time.
In the morning or in the evening
Some therefore choose to take it in the morning, on an empty stomach… A technique that would allow its nutrients to be absorbed more quickly. Others prefer to drink this beverage in the evening, rather with hot water, like an herbal tea to calm down before sleeping.
