paronychia
Cuticle inflammation is a common condition. It is also called paronychia or circulation. There are two forms: acute or chronic inflammation. How does an inflamed cuticle develop and – more importantly – how do you get rid of it?
An inflammation of one of your finger or toenails is not only annoying, but also painful. You use your hands all day and bumping into something with an inflamed finger can hurt you quite a bit. Do you have an inflammation of the cuticle of a toenail? Then just having shoes on will feel annoying.
Acute inflammation
In acute inflammation, the symptoms, as the name suggests, occur suddenly. The chronic form is when the symptoms persist for more than six weeks. It is important to treat inflammation. In rare cases, untreated inflammation can spread to whitlow. This is a serious inflammation that also affects bones and tendons.
mold
The acute form is usually caused by a bacterium called Staphylococcus Aureus. This bacteria can enter your skin when you have a small wound around the nail. This occurs, for example, if you pull off a piece of loose skin or if you cut your nails too short or too round. Skin diseases such as eczema and psoriasis also promote the development of small wounds. In a chronic cuticle infection, a fungus is usually the culprit.
Soda
A mild cuticle infection does not require treatment from a doctor. In most cases, the inflammation goes away on its own. A daily warm ‘bath’ with soda can promote recovery.
Is the inflammation worse and does it bother you a lot? Then go to your doctor. He will make a small cut in the abscess, allowing the pus to drain from the inflammation. Under no circumstances should you try this yourself. If necessary, your doctor will prescribe antibiotics or an antifungal medicine.
Tips to prevent cuticle inflammation
Do you regularly suffer from inflammation of the cuticles? There are a number of things you can do to avoid the chance of circulation.
- Toddler and don’t bite nails
- Do not pull loose sheets
- Wear gloves if you spend a lot of time with your hands in the water or work with irritating substances
- Always dry your hands and feet well, possibly with a hairdryer
- Cut the nails straight and not too short
