September 6, 2016.
According to a study by the Directorate of Research, Studies, Evaluation and Statistics (DREES), which depends on the Ministry of Health, published Monday, September 5, Social Security is increasingly covering the expenses of health of the French.
In 2015, Social Security financed 76.8% of care
In four years, French health spending has fallen. They have always needed so much treatment, but Social Security is covering a growing share of these expenses. In 2015, it financed 76.8% of the total addition, which amounted to 194.6 billion euros, ie 0.2 point more than last year.
The Ministry of Health specifies that this increase is explained by the increase in long-term conditions such as diabetes or cancer, which are 100% supported. Since 2012, and the arrival of François Hollande to power, the share of French health spending has only declined, it has fallen from 9.3% to 8.4%. In total, they spend an average of 1.21% of their gross disposable income on their health.
No new redemptions
It is not a surprise when we know that the Minister of Health, Marisol Touraine, has promised not to implement new redemptions. She also insisted that Social Security take care of a certain amount of care. Since April 1, 2016, for example, all acts related to a voluntary termination of pregnancy (abortion) are 100% reimbursed by Social Security.
Households are not the only ones to benefit from this greater coverage of care from Social Security. In two years, the share of funding for complementary organizations’ care increased from 13.6% to 13.3%. In 2015, the French spent nearly 195 million euros on consultations, medical analyzes, purchases of drugs and other medical goods.
