The most common disease in France, high blood pressure affects nearly 12 million people. The French Committee for the Fight against Arterial Hypertension (CLHTA) and the Arterial Hypertension Research Foundation are continuing their campaign to encourage screening. They recall the need for hypertensive patients to consult a general practitioner. First to detect the disease. It is estimated that 3 million French people suffering from hypertension are still undiagnosed. Yet, once spotted, managing this chronic disease can prevent more serious complications such as myocardial infarction and stroke.
Consultations are also made essential for proper care. Patients often find it difficult to follow their treatment correctly. Only 54% of hypertensive people would manage to do so. Visiting your doctor regularly allows you to ensure long-term follow-up and to adapt the treatment if necessary.
The right pace of consultations? “A person suffering from hypertension consults his general practitioner 6 to 10 times a year, either to renew his prescription, or to treat diseases frequently associated with hypertension” specifies in a press release Professor Jean-Jacques Mourad, former president of the CFLHTA, hypertensiologist at Avicenne hospital, Bobigny.
The arterial hypertension represents the first reason for consultation of general medicine.
A downloadable advice brochure
The CLHTA provides patients with a free brochure on website www.comitehta.org which explains in detail the types of consultations, the correct frequency. It also provides the advice necessary for the consultation to be successful.
