The notoriety of nuts for our health was well established. Known to decrease the risk of diabetes and breast cancer as well as to reduce the rate of cholesterolnuts and tree nuts reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, according to the results of a study published in the medical journal International Journal of Epidemiology.
Researchers from the School of Public Health at Loma Linda University (California), AgroParisTech and the National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA) conducted a large-scale study with 81,337 participants to analyze their diet and their consumption of animal or vegetable proteins in order to understand the impact on cardiovascular diseases. This research was conducted for 9.4 years.
Several protein sources have been identified: animal proteins, nuts and seeds, cerealsprocessed foods, and finally fruits and vegetables.
Nuts to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease
The results of the study showed that people who consumed large amounts of animal protein experienced a 60% increase in cardiovascular illnesseswhile people consuming large amounts of protein from nuts, shells and seeds experienced a 40% reduction in cardiovascular disease.
“Further research may answer other questions about the role of meat proteins in the onset of cardiovascular disease, and the type of proteins capable of affecting cardiac risk factors, including arterial pressure and theobesity said Gary Fraser, one of the study’s co-authors.
