A healthy conversation with lung specialist Wanda de Kanter
Everyone knows that smoking is unhealthy, but many people are still addicted to smoking and children start with their first cigarette every day. How come smoking cannot be banned from our society? And what is the best approach if you really want to stop now? A conversation with lung specialist Wanda de Kanter, who is now an almost full-time activist against what she sees as a ‘criminal’ tobacco industry.
Wanda de Kanter has been a lung specialist for 30 years, including at the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek hospital and research institute in Amsterdam, which specializes in cancer. She treats many people with lung cancer. De Kanter has started working much less in healthcare from January 2021, because she wants to free up more time for the fight against the tobacco industry. De Kanter, together with pulmonologist Pauline Dekker, wrote the book ‘The Netherlands stops! With smoking‘, a handbook for anyone who wants to quit smoking.
