A healthy conversation with professor Jaap Seidell
Are you doing your best to live a healthy life? Entirely right! In this podcast series we often give tips and tricks to help you with that. But in this episode we zoom out to society. Because why is it that so many people in the Netherlands are ill or overweight? Is that our own fault? No, says Professor of Nutrition and Health Jaap Seidell.
Seidell fervently argues that we are getting sick because of our food system, and because of the way healthcare is organized. We must not only work on our own health, but also on that of society. That would prevent a lot of problems. Jaap Seidell wrote the book about this ‘Other costs‘, together with psychologist/researcher Jutka Halberstadt. This podcast episode really makes you think. Does our society and our diet make us sick? And isn’t it time that we really tackle health problems at the root?
Jaap Seidell is professor of Nutrition and Health at the VU University Amsterdam. He conducts research and advises various scientific organisations, including the World Health Organization and the Health Council.
