Tongue: it is whitish
Pasty and saburrale (covered with a thick whitish coating), the tongue moves with difficulty in the mouth: this is what hinders the renewal of the cells of the mucous membrane. It is generally observed during feverish episodes (nasopharyngitis, high fever, etc.). It can also correspond to digestive disorders such as gastroenteritis. To remove the coating, simply scrape your tongue with a toothbrush.
Tongue: it is raspberry
The tongue is first covered with a white coating while the tip is red, V-shaped. After a few days, it is completely covered with small red dots. This is typical of scarlet fever. This early childhood disease is caused by streptococcus releasing a toxin responsible for the rash. Antibiotic treatment is required.
Tongue: it is dry
When we examine it, the tongue sticks to the mirror. It has lost its shiny appearance. This dryness, which is a reason for frequent consultation, may be linked to the taking of medication (psychotropic drugs, antidepressants, diuretics, etc.). It is sometimes seen in people who sleep while breathing through their mouths. It can also be the beginning of dehydration or a disorder of the salivary glands of immune origin.
Tongue: it is spotted
White deposits dot the tongue and disappear when scratched. Better to consult: it may be a thrush. Caused by fungi of the “Candida” family, this mycosis can appear following antibiotic treatment. It is easily cured with the help of antifungals.

Tongue: she has ulcers
Located around the edge of the tongue, canker sores are white with a very red rim. Round and regular, they should not be confused with the beginning of cancer which is characterized by a small hard ball in relief. Aspirin and rhubarb solutions alleviate the pain of canker sores. If they do not disappear after ten days, then a consultation is necessary.
Tongue: she is black
The taste buds lengthen and turn black. It’s painless, but the tongue is a bit mushy. This pigmentation is often caused by overuse of antiseptics, taking antibiotics or smoking. It should not be confused with a yeast infection. As a general rule, brushing your tongue vigorously is sufficient to allow the taste buds to peel. Sometimes a retinoid-based pickling solution is prescribed.
