Shea butter soothes red buttocks
“If the mother had to have only one product available to treat the baby’s skin, it would be shea butter! “, Believes Julien Kaibeck, author of the guide” Vegetable oils, it’s smart “(ed. Leduc.s). Once a day and until the irritation subsides, massage the baby’s clean, dry buttocks with organic shea butter previously heated in the hand. As a prevention, practice this massage once or twice a week.
When changing, massage the irritated buttocks with oily calendula macerate with soothing and anti-inflammatory properties.
Zinc oxide and allantoin heal
Allantoin is extracted from a plant, comfrey, known for its soothing, moisturizing, healing and restorative properties. “Think of the infusion of comfrey to prepare a quick and very gentle lotion for your baby’s sensitive skin,” advises Émilie Hébert in “My organic care, 40 recipes for babies and mothers” (ed. Eyrolles). She also offers this “anti-irritation melting butter” recipe which combines allantoin and zinc oxide (protective and antiseptic) for a healing action.
Recipe :
• In a mortar, work 25 g of shea butter and 10 g of rosehip oil until obtaining a very creamy butter.
• Add 2 teaspoons of zinc oxide, 1 knife point of allantoin, 1 drop of natural vitamin E and homogenize with the pestle. Transfer to a 12 cl bottle.
• For prevention: apply a thick layer on baby’s bottom 2 or 3 times a week.
• For relief: apply a thick layer at each change.
Rice flour to dry out
This powder is formulated with organic rice flour, softening, and sweet almond oil. It absorbs moisture. It is recommended to protect the buttocks after each change and leaves an insulating and soothing film ”explains Emilie Hébert, who offers this recipe in her book.
