Having a fulfilling sexual activity is essential for the majority of French retirees.
- Sex has multiple health benefits, including reducing stress.
- 82% of seniors say they are in good health.
Exit knitting and television. For 56% of retirees, fulfillment goes through sexual (and romantic) activity, according to a new survey by La France Mutualiste and the BVA polling institute. More than 9 out of 10 retirees still feel very dynamic, and 79% practice physical activity to stay in shape. Thus, 82% of seniors say they are in good health, while only 63% of those under 60 assume that they are.
“Perception shift”
“There is a real gap in perception between working people and seniors on retirement”, analyzes Bruno Valersteinas, Deputy Managing Director of the La France Mutualiste group. “The latter have a mostly positive opinion of the situation they are experiencing, while those under 60 project fantasized fears over this period. The youngest (under 60) have a vision of retirement-related activities that is not reflected in reality. On the contrary, retirees are rather active and thrive in multiple hobbies. With this survey, we demonstrate that retirement, far from being gloomy, is a privileged time to take care of yourself, travel, be in contact with loved ones, family and friends”. he continues.
Old age does not begin until the age of 75
Those over 60 thus consider that old age does not begin until the age of 75. The older they are, the more this cut-off age recedes. On the contrary, the 18/30 year olds believe that we are entering old age… from the age of 59!
Last lesson: working people imagine that taking care of their grandchildren is the first source of fulfillment for their elders (60%), and, for 47%, that it is with them that they are the most happy. In reality, seniors prefer to see their friends (50%). Taking care of their grandchildren (43%) only comes in 4th place, and only 19% mention them when they talk about the people with whom they spend their best moments, far behind their spouse (41%).
