Losing weight is not easy, but it helps if there is a financial big stick behind the door. This is apparent from the results of 273 participants in the ‘Losing with Agreements’ lifestyle program of Zilveren Kruis. The program is made available to employers.
The five-month program focuses on nutrition, exercise and motivation. One in three participants says that the financial stick behind the door is an important reason to participate. On the basis of personal goals, the participants work for three months with a personal trainer and a nutrition coach. After that, participants continue independently for two months. If they achieve the goals, Zilveren Kruis will reimburse the entire program. Participants who do not keep to the agreements and who do not achieve the goals will pay for the bill of 350 euros themselves.
ten kilos
On average, participants lose almost ten kilos and reduce their waist circumference by almost ten centimeters. Two out of three manage to lower their BMI (Body Mass Index) by three or more points. One in seven participants does not achieve the set goals and therefore has to pay the bill themselves.
Overweight is a well-known problem in the Netherlands. In 2018, more than half of the Dutch population aged 18 and older was overweight and one in seven was seriously overweight (obese).
