Star Walk 2 is a great app for exploring the night sky: just point the camera at the sky! The app shows constellations, planets, asteroids, comets, galaxies and even the International Space Station.
Star Walk 2 – Guide to the Sky Day and Night, as the app is called in full, has a lot to offer. In principle, you can just point the iPhone at the sky to look at the stars, but you can also conjure up stars with augmented reality, to align them more accurately with what you see in real life. If you aim at a constellation, the screen will also start to glow, which looks very cool.
If you have a beautiful constellation in your sights, you can view it better by tapping on it. You can then take a closer look at the stars in 3D and rotate the image. You immediately know what Orion actually looks like from above, or from the side. You can also view 3D renders of gas clouds from planets.
As mentioned, you can point the phone into the sky to view stars, but it is also possible to do that with swipes. With a time function you can see how the earth rotates, and where the stars stay. This way you check how that affects the way we orbit away from the stars.
The app is available for Android and iOS. She is free with ads; for a fee, the ads disappear.
