For many of us, all motivation to perform a sports session suddenly disappears as winter approaches. Early in the morning, while it’s still dark and cold, getting out of your warm duvet – let alone going for a workout – requires superhuman effort. And after a long day, all you want to do is come home and whip up some comfort food. The very idea of going out and setting foot in a gym gives you chills.
But in order not to lose the good habits and the benefit of regular physical activity and to continue to move as you can, it is possible to achieve small movements manageable from your couch or bed while watching a serial episode.
“Life is busy and hectic and it’s rare that we can dedicate an entire hour to exercise every day”indicates to Stylist fitness expert Stefanie Williams. However, a few micro-movements each day are better than none at all. “The way we move should be flexible depending on how our body feels, how much time we have and what we enjoy”, she continues. This allows us to no longer make sport a chore, and to include it as an integral part of our way of life.
Squat, sheathing, balance… These exercises are easily done from home, without too much effort for an episode of your favorite series (to combine business with pleasure). Do not hesitate to stretch before and after to avoid aches as much as possible.
What are the benefits for a sports activity? By taking care of the different body systems (heart, lungs and joints), physical activity prevents multiple diseases such as high blood pressure, heart attack, stroke, obesity and type 2 diabetes. It also helps to delay cell aging and limits bone diseases (osteoarthritis, osteoporosis) by strengthening the joints. It is also necessary for good mental health and helps fight stress, anxiety, depression and isolation.
