Elon Musk has launched a SpaceX rocket into space and will soon crash hard on the moon.
We know Elon Musk as CEO of Tesla, but he is also the boss from SpaceX. That company launched a Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral on February 11, 2015. After the Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR) satellite was launched into orbit with an unobstructed view of the sun, the used upper stage of the rocket went into a chaotic elliptical orbit. Soon the rather old rocket will smash on the moon.
SpaceX rocket will crash
According to Ars Technica, it will crash on the moon. This was calculated by Bill Gray of Project Pluto, which tracks objects near Earth. This shows that the rocket will hit universal time on March 4 at 12:25:58. The four-ton rocket component — officially known as 2015-007B — is set to hit the lunar surface at more than 9,000 kilometers per hour.
Exactly one month earlier, on February 7-8, 2022, the upper stage of the Falcon 9 will be visible from Earth. That’s because it will circle the Earth on its night side. It’s the only time it will be possible to see it.
Watch crash
Of course we don’t want to miss any of this, so the question is whether we can see it from Earth. Unfortunately, that is not possible. It will collide on the other side of the moon. It’s not unique either, it’s happened before. NASA deliberately crashed part of its Ranger spacecraft onto the moon in 1964 so that it could return images of the lunar surface just before impact. Many experts are increasingly concerned about dumping space debris.
