Saying you’re not interested isn’t enough. Elon Musk can’t just say goodbye to Twitter.
In recent months, the message seemed clear. Elon Musk went to buy Twitter in a bizarre $44 billion deal. But anyone who has known Elon longer than today knows that a simple deal is not easily made. Musk has a handful of making crazy decisions at the last minute. He’s not your average businessman.
And yes. Also with the deal to buy Twitter, Elon Musk gives it another weird twist. He says he is no longer interested in taking over the American company. Musk would initially pay $44 billion for it.
His interest has declined because Twitter would not clarify to him how many spam accounts are active on the platform. Spam accounts do not see the advertisements and therefore do not bring in any money. This was important for Elon Musk to know because it would affect the acquisition amount.
Saying goodbye to Twitter is easier said than done. A legal clause has been included in the takeover talks. If Musk pulls out of the deal, he will still have to pay a billion dollars. This is going to be a fun legal battle.
