The contaminated egg scandal continues. After the withdrawal from sale of industrial waffles containing fipronil, an insecticide, the Ministry of Agriculture updated the listing of affected foods. It now contains 20 products, made in the Netherlands and Belgium. Two references containing frangipane are added: these are almond cakes from the Lotus brand. Mini waffles from Les Trouvailles de Lucile also extend this list.
No health risk
Among these 20 references, we also find food brands Leclerc, Carrefour, Intermarché, Leader Price, Franprix, Système U, Monoprix and Casino, put on the market since June 23. All have since been withdrawn from sale because they contain fipronil “at a concentration above the regulatory limit (MRL = 0.005 mg / kg of product)”, read the press release. The Ministry of Agriculture nevertheless specifies that these foods do not “present any risk for health [et qu’ils] are listed for the sake of consumer information “.
This list, described as “evolving”, is likely to be supplemented. For the time being, 17 European countries are said to be affected by eggs contaminated with fipronil.
