This father is one of the French opposed to vaccination. While the vaccine against DT-Polio is the only one to be compulsoryin France, Mickaël Lecomte, a young 36-year-old father, refuses to vaccinate his 20-month-old son Pierre. This protest earned him to be summoned this Monday, November 9, 2015 to the Strasbourg court. He faces six months in prison and a fine of 3,750 euros, according to the Ministry of Health.
Dangerous adjuvants?
Doctors have repeatedly asked Mickaël Lecomte to have his child vaccinated. But the father did not give in to what he felt like “pressures“:”They scare you, they make you feel guilty, they blackmail you, threats so that you give in. But, me, I had no scientific explanation“he confided to BFM TV. If this man is opposed to the vaccination of his son, it is in particular out of fear of the risks related to the adjuvants: “We are not given any information: neither the composition nor the manufacture. It is not a relationship of trust with the doctor“He also explained on BFM TV. Opponents of vaccines indeed fear the health risks associated with presence of aluminum as an adjuvant in some of the injections. Corn “the scientific data available to date do not allow the safety of vaccines containing aluminum to be called into question, with regard to their benefit / risk balance” according to the High Council of Public Health.
Mandatory primary vaccination up to 13 years of age
The DT-Polio vaccine protects against diphtheria, tetanus and polio, three serious diseases that can be fatal. Primary vaccination is compulsory: it consists of two injections at two and four months, then a booster at 11 months. Recalls are obligatory up to 13 years for polio. In addition to the fine and the prison sentence incurred by the parents, the refusal of the DT-Polio vaccine will deprive the child of any registration in nursery, day-care center, and even at school.
