Crowds, security measures, fatigue, delays … Traveling can be stressful, especially at large airports. In New York City, at LaGuardia Airport, travelers can find solace in particular agents, as revealed in New York Post.
These are dogs. Every Friday, a team of canine therapists and their masters is deployed in Terminal B of the airport. Friday, January 25, Ziggy, an 8-year-old Italian greyhound and Buddy, an 11-year-old black Labrador, were on duty, for the pleasure of travelers.
Distract travelers and ease tensions
“They make the airport – and especially this one – more bearable”, explains to the American media Darlene Collins, 45 years. This mother was traveling with her three children who played with Ziggy while she checked in at the counter. “If a child has a whim and sees a dog, it will calm him down,” she adds.
But dogs aren’t just there for kids. The presence of this “comfort team” is part of the efforts of LaGuardia airport, in full redevelopment, in the hope of distracting travelers and easing tensions.
The dogs were trained in canine therapy by the specialized association Bideawee. They are six and take turns every week. The initiative was first set up for Thanksgiving weekend. Faced with its success, it was renewed.
Some would almost forget that they were at an airport, like this 24-year-old American who struggled to leave Ziggy and Buddy. “I would have liked not to have had a plane to take to be able to continue playing with them”, tells the young man to the New York Post.
