I’acne is a skin disease caused by excessive sebum secretion in particular. As a result, there is an accumulation of small pimples on the whole face or in part. One in ten people would be affected. It is often thought that teenagers are the most affected by the phenomenon. Fake ! Adults can suffer from it too.
In the June 2020 issue of the science magazine Jama Dermatology a study reveals that the consumption milk, sugary drinks, and fatty, sugary foods could be associated with acne. The conclusion comes from the study of the diet of 25,000 French adults. Their mode of feeding was recorded over 24 hours, in November 2018. 6 months later, the experiment was repeated.
Result: people affected by acne had consumed, more than the others:
- much more milk,
- milk chocolate,
- fast food
- and fatty and sugary products.
They also tended to eat less meat, fish, vegetables, fruit and dark chocolate.
Sugary foods promote inflammation
“Excess sugar disrupts the body on many levels. The microbiota, for example, sees its balance modified, the intestinal flora changes and therefore the bacteria invade the epidermis and result in acne”, says Corinne Fernandez, dietitian nutritionist in Paris. This is not the first time that a study has revealed the link between excess sugar and acne. But regularly, expert reports refine the reasons that link the two. “A diet high in sugar promotes the increase in insulin. This could be the cause of oxidative stress and inflammation that would lead to the appearance of acne”, adds the nutritionist.
An additional reason if needed to severely reduce the sugar in your diet. We are obviously talking about fast and refined sugars (chocolate candies, pastries, pastries, etc.) and not the sugars contained in cereals or legumes, among others. These are necessary for a nutritional balance in reasonable quantities. And note that their satiating effect helps to avoid cravings, which sometimes lead to having a heavy hand on sweets or cupcakes.
