A patch designed to make it easier to take insulin in public is being developed by an American laboratory.
A patch that releases insulin when pressed
We already told you about a patch capable of delivering insulin on its own for 24 hours to a diabetic, but it was still a prototype. In the case of this patch, designed by Calibra Medical Inc, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, the research is more advanced. And for good reason:The patch in question does not diffuse insulin on its own, it must be activated to receive a dose! Diabetics who use it should always measure their sugar levels before a meal. And depending on the result, activate the patch, by simply pressing on it.
Making it easier to take insulin in public
The idea of this patch starts from a simple observation: many diabetics, out of modesty, do not dare to inject insulin in public, and “skip” a dose, or delay it, which is never recommended for an insulin-dependent patient. 61% of diabetics surveyed admit not always carrying their insulin with them when they go out in public. However the long-term sequelae, caused by hyperglycemia, are serious!
Be careful, however: the OneTouch Via patch is not intended to completely replace insulin injections, but simply to replace one, to prevent forgetting.
