Between a pain au chocolat and a croissant: which of the two has the most calories? Is one better than the other for health? Doctor Walid Mekeddemgeneral practitioner in Paris and author of a medical popularization Instagram account, offers some insights.
First, for 100g of croissant, we consume 407 kilocalories, and 46 grams of carbohydrates. Pain au chocolat provides us with 447 kilocalories and 47 grams of carbohydrates, always per 100g. The two are therefore roughly similar, but the size sold in bakeries is not the same, explains the doctor: pain au chocolat generally weighs 60 grams, compared to 50 for the croissant.
Vary the breakfasts
That said, according to the doctor, there is no crucial difference in eating one or the other. The most important thing is not to consume it too often.. Better to vary with balanced breakfasts, less rich in sugar. Vidal takes over the recommendations breakfast: a drink (tea, water, coffee, milk), a dairy product (yogurt for example), a cereal-based product, a little sugar (but not too much: honey or jam), and a fruit, for its fibers.
To give a point of reference on what this caloric consumption represents in relation to our vital needs, Vidal recalls that “the amount of calories needed each day by an adult depends on many factors such as gender, age, height, weight or level of physical activity. For an adult male, the recommended energy intake is On average, 2,400 to 2,600 calories per day, depending on activity. For an adult woman, it is 1,800 to 2,200 calories.”
