Since June 9, a reduction in health measures has been made for travelers. Especially for those who wish to go overseas. We take stock of the new conditions for travel.
From June 9, “We are resuming a normal life in the relationship between these territories and France, especially for vaccinated people”, explained Sébastien Lecornu, Minister of Overseas France to France Info June 4. “I call on our fellow citizens to look at the overseas territories with kindness. It is France, so it is also in a health system which will be completely stabilized and which will allow us to have happy holidays ”, he adds.
The minister also assured that it will be possible to go on vacation to Reunion, Mayotte, the West Indies, Guadeloupe, Martinique or Guyana even if vigilance will be required for this territory because of the Brazilian variant. But then what are the travel conditions for the French wishing to return to the overseas departments and territories (DOM-TOM)?
Traveling to Réunion and Mayotte
To get to Reunion Island or the Mayotte archipelago, it is indicated on the website of the Guyana prefecture “Between these territories and France and between these two territories, vaccinated travelers (complete vaccination schedule) will be exempt from self-isolation in both directions from June 9[…] A negative PCR test less than 72 hours before departure will continue to be required ”.
Traveling to Martinique and Guadeloupe
These are the same rules. Since June 9, travel with France has been simplified, so vaccinated people will have to present a negative PCR test of less than 72 hours at the time of boarding. For children, from 11 years old, a PCR test will also be requested. The prefecture of Martinique also specifies on its site, vaccine conditions “It is recalled that a vaccinated person is a person who can attest to the completion of a complete vaccination schedule, namely:
- 2 weeks after the 2nd injection for double injection vaccines (Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca)
- 4 weeks after injection for vaccines with a single injection (Johnson & Johnson)
- 2 weeks after the injection (only one injection required) of a vaccine in people who have already had a history of Covid-19 “.
Traveling in Guyana
Unlike other overseas regions, the situation is different in Guyana, for good reason, the variant “Brazilian”. The prefecture specifies on its dedicated page “Between Guyana and France, travelers benefiting from a complete vaccination schedule will no longer, on their arrival in France, be subject to a mandatory 10-day quarantine, prescribed by prefectural decree and regularly monitored by the security forces. security”. However the authorities of the territory impose “A 7-day self-isolation in both directions”.
For the French who are not vaccinated, they will have to commit to a 7-day self-isolation in all areas of the DOM-TOM with a test at the end. A 72 hour PCR test or a 48 hour antigen test is also requested before boarding. It works both ways.
