The holidays are over: it’s back-to-school time! Among the (many) questions that parents will have to answer, there is that of the snack: what can you put in your child’s schoolbag that is at the same time easy to transport, appetizing and good for your health?
Asked by our colleagues from ParisianDr. Jean-Michel Cohen, nutritionist, warns us against the industrial biscuits that children love… Indeed: cookies, biscuits, wafers and other soft chocolate cakes are initially too caloric since they contain between 350 and 500 Kcal per 100 g (which corresponds to about 5 biscuits depending on the brand).
Biscuits that are too greasy, too sweet… and sometimes bad for your health
Then, they are of little interest from a nutritional point of view: they often contain too much sugar (even hyper-transformed sugars such as glucose-fructose syrup, bad for your health since it is suspected of promoting obesity) and/or fat (such as palm oil, a substance that promotes high cholesterol).
The nutritionist doctor therefore recommends limiting yourself to 20 to 30 g of biscuits per day – and not every day. For children’s snacks, it is better to turn to healthier alternatives: a piece of bread with 4 squares of chocolate, for example, or a plain biscuit with fresh fruit. And for the most motivated, why not cook little cakes that can be kept for the long term, to slip into the school bag all year round?
