Are you looking for “aphrodisiac” dietary supplements to give your libido a little boost? Caution: the Directorate General for Competition, Consumption and the Repression of Fraud (DGCCRF), the Directorate General for Customs and Indirect Duties (DGDDI) and the National Agency for the Safety of Medicines and Health Products (ANSM) have just pinpointed a certain number of products potentially dangerous to health…
Mainly marketed on social networks, these “aphrodisiac” food supplements claim to contain ingredients of natural origin (mainly plants). However, the analyzes of the health authorities are formal: in these products, there are also medicinal active substances used against erectile dysfunction… and normally only available on prescription.
Molecules contraindicated in case of cardiovascular disorders
Sildenafil and tadalafil, in particular, are vasodilator molecules which act specifically on the male penis: these molecules are strictly contraindicated in people who suffer from cardiovascular disorders – angina pectoris, severe heart failure, arterial hypertension uncontrolled, uncontrolled heart rhythm disorders, history of myocardial infarction or stroke…
As the ANSM explains in a press release, “several poison control centers have listed in recent months numerous reports of serious adverse effects following the consumption of these products, having caused repeated convulsions, haemorrhages of pulmonary origin, cerebral edema, or major acute renal failure having, for some, resulted in hospitalizations“.
The list of affected products is available on the official website ReminderConso. These include the food supplements Black Horse Honey and Jaguar Power. “The authorities call on consumers above all not to consume these products and to destroy them. People who have consumed it and who experience adverse effects are invited to consult their doctor or go to the emergency room.“recommends the ANSM.
