What should you keep in mind when purchasing a personal alarm system? With this checklist we help you on your way.
The Checklist
A handy list of points to keep in mind:
- How easy is it to press the alarm button?
- How long does it take for the system to connect to a contact?
- How does an alarm message reach a contact person (e.g. telephone call, app, text message, whatsapp)?
- Does the system have voicemail recognition?
- What are the annual or monthly costs after purchase?
- Can the privacy settings be adjusted by the user?
- Can the alarm system also locate without the user noticing?
- Do care centers accept the system?
- If wander detection is an important function, can you set the system to alarm if the user leaves a certain safe area?
- For a mobile system, opt for a variant that you cannot easily forget, such as a wristband.
- Ask the doctor, district nurse and/or insurer for advice. Also look at the options for having (part of) the costs reimbursed by your insurer.
- Close a contract with one provider who takes care of everything, including installation and equipment. For a fixed personal alarm, search for a local (home care) organization on the internet using the search terms ‘personal alarm’ and the place of residence.
- Does the system have the WDTM seal of approval from the Healthcare Technology Industry Association? Also pay attention to this quality mark when choosing an installer and a care center. WDTM stands for Housing, Services and Technology for people.
