Don’t wear them for more than 2 hours a day
Heels are getting higher and higher and many women are following this trend. It is well known to most people that heels are not good for the feet and can lead to foot problems. But did you know that walking in shoes that are too flat and walking all day in slippers can also cause serious foot problems?
Slippers give the feet little protection. If you wear flip flops, you are more likely to get splinters. People with diabetes should not wear flip flops at all, as small cuts can lead to serious complications. The risk of injury is also greater, because they do not offer any support. Because slippers are so flat and often have no footbed, they can cause problems for the knees, hips and back. Do you still want to wear slippers? Do not do this for more than two hours a day.
ballerinas
In the summer it is impossible to imagine life without them: ballerinas. Comfortable and nice and airy, but because they are often just as flat as slippers, these can also cause problems for the knees, hips and back. If you want to purchase ballerinas, make sure that they have a good footbed or purchase insoles if necessary. Flats, as ballerinas are also called, provide little support and therefore can also cause the painful foot condition plantar fasciitis. In plantar fasciitis, the connective tissue on the underside of the sole of the foot is inflamed. Because the pain resulting from this condition mainly occurs in the heel area, it is also referred to as heel pain.
Chop
High-heeled shoes force the foot into an unnatural position that puts a lot of pressure on the ball of the foot. There is also a lot of pressure on the metatarsal bones and the sesamoid bones when wearing heels. Too much pressure can cause irritation around the bones and nerves. When heels are often worn, it can lead to hairline cracks in the bones.
All high heels increase the risk of sprained ankles. The most common is the sideways, where the foot swings to one side. As a result, the ankle ligaments stretch more than their own length. People who regularly sprain their ankles can damage their tires. It is best to see a physiotherapist to allow it to heal properly.
Platform soles and wedges
Platform shoes and wedges often have a rigid footbed. Your feet then try to bend, but because the footbed is so stiff, this is not possible. If the sole is much higher at the heel than at the toes, this can also put a lot of pressure on the metatarsal bones. Do you really want to wear wedges? Then choose a model with a flat sole.
Pointy shoes
Also, do not take shoes with a pointy nose. The entire front of the foot is then compressed. Over time, this can cause bunions, blisters, and hammertoes. Some women may even develop bruises under their toenails from the constant pressure.
Finally, four tips to keep in mind when buying new shoes
- Never buy shoes that are too big or too small.
- Is the sole flexible, but not too flexible?
- Does the shoe provide sufficient support?
- Choose a shoe with a heel that is no higher than 5 centimeters.
