Anger, like all negative emotions, is harmful to our health. They would double the risk of making a infarction, according to the results of a study published in the medical journal Circulation. And if you thought you would ward off this anger through intense physical activity, know that it triples the probability of having a heart attack! This phenomenon could be explained by the increase in heart rate and arterial pressure.
Researchers at McMaster University (Canada) analyzed medical data from 12,400 myocardial infarction patients across 52 countries around the world on five continents. For the study, participants reported their emotional state and whether they had engaged in strenuous physical activity before the heart attack.
The heart suffers from anger and intensive sport
The findings of the study revealed that 14% of the volunteers had performed very intense physical activity an hour before being affected by a heart attack. The researchers observed that 7.7% of the infarctions of the patients studied were due to too intensive sports practice, while 8.5% were the result of excess anger.
Anger and intensive sport are indeed likely to reduce the amount of blood reaching the heart. This association increases heart rate and blood pressure.
“This is only an observational study, which cannot prove the existence of a cause and effect relationship. However, the size of the sample suggests that there is indeed a correlation between strong emotions, physical exercise and heart attacks, “the researchers conclude. However, it is out of the question to forget the virtues of sport for daily health!
