Instagram announces an important change for videos on the platform: almost all of them will now fall under Reels.
Reels are short, repeating videos that are very similar to the content you find on TikTok. With this move, the photo-sharing service wants to better fend off the competition with that app.
All videos that you share via a public account that take up less than 90 seconds of someone’s time can now be found under the reelssection of the application.
Instagram videos in the Reels algorithm
That could be good news for many creators. Because Instagram’s algorithm then shares the videos with anyone it thinks will find the video interesting.
Other users can also easily create a Remix and give the content their own twist. This is all possible with the available tools that Instagram offers.
The changes also apply more or less to publicly shared photos on the platform. In the coming weeks it will be possible to remix that content as well, if you want to do that.
There are, however, exceptions to the rule. Videos longer than 15 minutes will never become Reels. Instagram also does not include videos that were published before the changes.
