Cannabis remains, at present, the illicit substance most consumed in France. Thus, according to the Public Health France 2020 barometer46% of adults have already tried cannabis and 3.2% of adults smoke more than 10 joints in a month.
Except that we know it: cannabis is as bad for mental health as for physical health. Regular cannabis use can thus lead to heart problems, the formation of “false memories”, an increased risk of cancer, more frequent bone fractures, the development of schizophrenia…
To better understand the devastation caused by cannabis, Public Health France has just launched a campaign entitled “History of joints”.
In particular published on the YouTube channel of Drogues-info-servicethese short videos alternate audio testimonials (collected from cannabis users) and explanations from specialists (from Laurent Karila, psychiatrist and addictologist at the AP-HP, and Jean-Michel Delile, psychiatrist and president of the Addiction Federation ).
Cannabis: consumer testimonials to better understand
Six themes (which revolve around 6 preconceived ideas about cannabis) have been selected: cannabis and sleep (is it true that we sleep better after smoking a joint?), cannabis and lungs (is cannabis really less dangerous than cigarettes for the lungs?), cannabis and mental disorders (can joints make you bipolar or schizophrenic?), cannabis and bad-trips (does it really exist?), cannabis and cognitive disorders (do joints really harm to the brain?) and cannabis and risk factors.
“Reinforcing knowledge about the damage associated with cannabis consumption is fundamental: the health risks of cannabis are real and demonstrated, and all the more so when its consumption becomes intensive.“recalls Public Health France.
