An independent designer has imagined a modern Alfa Romeo sports coupe, evoking a few stylistic details of models from the past. It would be a rival of choice for the BMW M2, but this creation is only virtual.
If Alfa Romeo launched a sporty coupe with compact proportions coming to hunt on the lands of the BMW M2, taking inspiration from certain icons of its past, what would this model look like? This is essentially the question that the Brazilian designer Guilherme Araujo, who works at Ford in Turkey, had to ask himself to virtually design in his spare time the one he called Alfa Romeo GTS.

Legacy for Identity
Front and side, the creation of Araujo inevitably evokes the Alfa Romeo Giulia GT of the 1960s signed Bertone but the rendering is not overly “retro”. We find round front lights encased on either side of the grille, front and rear parts as truncated, an almost horizontal hood, a reduced front overhang, a very inclined windshield and very clean lines. highlighted by a few protruding ridges on the wings. At the back, two horizontal lines provide lighting under a bezel hollowed out in its center. The shiny black pillars give the illusion of an uninterrupted glass surface around the car, and the rear-view cameras anchor the vehicle in our time.

The impossible story of a new sports car Alfa Romeo
The front spoiler, the very wide fenders, the diffuser and the multiple gills serving to absorb or evacuate the air suggest the hot temperament of the car, which has the elegance to do without a spoiler. But nothing is said about the engine that could animate this GTS. Guilherme Araujo, on the other hand, reveals its dimensions: 4.47 m long, 2 m wide and 1.40 m high.
This independent styling study reminds us that Alfa Romeo in 2018 promised the return of the GTV in the form of a four-seater coupe that would offer more than 600 hp in the Quadrifoglio version. The image then published as a teaser hinted at a design close to that of the current Giulia. Alas, in 2019, this project was abandoned as that of a new 8C supercar which had been announced at the same time. Alfa Romeo is now part of the Stellantis group and no sportswoman seems to be on the program.
