Hervé Le Saux, head of the start-up Kerostin Mobility Solutions in Ploemeur (Morbihan), has thought of a concept that should make the daily life of people with reduced mobility easier. He created a wheelchair that adapts to steps. As explained The telegram, the innovative wheels turn into toothed wheels that allow you to climb stairs. They regain their circular shape once on the floor or landing. The motorized device must be assisted by an attendant to maintain balance, explains the boss of the company. But it should facilitate the accessibility of previously complicated places for people with reduced mobility.
This Wheelchair is not aimed so much at handicap situations than the elderly with mobility problems. “The quadriplegicneed very complex chairs that are perfectly suited to their physical problem. As for paraplegics, they seek above all a great freedom of movement, with light and comfortable armchairs. On the other hand, there is a whole fringe of the senior population that has mobility problems that our invention can solve “, explains Hervé Le Saux.
Facilitate access for seniors losing their mobility
The Breton boss is already imagining several concrete applications for his invention, for example in the context of the development of outpatient clinics or even on tourist sites to promote access for seniors who have difficulty moving.
Two models of armchairs have been designed. The first, manual, is already on the market and will be covered by Health Insurance from September 2019, according to The Parisian.
The second, motorized, should land on the market in March 2019.
In July 2017, it was the invention of an Italian that made people talk about her. Mario Vigentini, a former educator for young people with disabilities, created a wheelchair with a higher seat, to enable people with disabilities to perform tasks of daily living.
