A man in China has temporarily lost sight in his left eye after playing games all night and in the dark on his smartphone.
If you love playing games on your phone late into the night, this story reported by the DailyMail may well make you change your habits your habits.
In the Chinese city of Shenzhen, a man lost sight in his left eye after playing games on his smartphone all night in his dark bedroom.
After hours of play, the man fell asleep in the early morning. When he woke up, he could no longer see out of his left eye. He attempted to pick up where he left off, but seeing that his vision was not improving, he decided to go to Songgang Hospital in Shenzen.
Valsalva retinopathy involved
On site, the doctors found that he was suffering from Valsalva retinopathy, that is to say a rupture of retinal vessels, which generally occurs during physical exertion. People who have it may experience cloudy or blurred vision, or even experience partial or complete loss of vision.
According to the medical staff, this rupture of the superficial retinal vessels and the subsequent hemorrhage occurred due to the effort required of concentrating on a screen for hours in the dark.
The man, who has not been identified, underwent laser surgery to stop the bleeding and repair the damaged vessels. He should have full sight in his left eye within a month.
This is the second such incident to occur in China within a month. A few weeks earlier, another man temporarily lost his sight while he too was playing games on his phone with the lights off. Doctors diagnosed him with a central retinal artery occlusion, the first sign of a stroke.
