The prototype testing season in Spain is in full swing. Thus BMW is fine-tuning the settings of the replacement for its compact MPV, the 2 Series Active Tourer.
BMW boosts its MPV
Compared to the photos taken in the summer of 2020 on the same roads in southern Europe, the camouflage of the vehicles is still impressive today. However, some details appear, such as the lights on the stern.
The round decoys thus give way to a design more corresponding to the spirit of BMW: the elements stretch in width and bite generously on the tailgate. The models in these shots feature a front LED light signature. The grille is much more vertical than that of the current generation of MPV.
A large screen for the meters
and infotainment
Inside, the dashboard layout is THE novelty of this 2 Series Active Tourer. It consists ofa large digital panel integrating the instrumentation and the touch screen of the infotainment system. By freeing itself from any cap above the meters, the minivan is inspired by the presentation on board the recent BMW iX.

A maintained engine range
In terms of mechanics, this Series 2 Active Tourer, second of the name, will always be based on a traction platform similar to that used for the Mini range. Its engine offer will consist of three and four-cylinder petrol and diesel units with power ranging from 109 to 190 hp. Not to mention the plug-in hybrid version displaying 220 hp. The dual-clutch transmission will also remain on the program.
The new 2 Series Active Tourer will be presented in the second half of 2021 (a presence at the Munich Motor Show cannot be ruled out). Its production will begin at the very end of the year for commercialization expected in early 2022. It will now be the only representative of the brand in the MPV segment: the Gran Tourer version disappears from the catalog. BMW is thus aligning itself with Mercedes, which had never offered its B-Class as an extended seven-seater variant.
