Binge-watching is a little guilty pleasure: one evening a week (and sometimes more), we love to slump on the sofa to watch our favorite series for hours … And the recent development of services of video on demand does not help us to stop this addiction!
Except that according to a recent study conducted by the University of Queensland (Australia), excessive television consumption could, in the long run, weaken our lower muscles. To come to this conclusion, Australian scientists followed 1,938 volunteers for 12 years – these were between 47 and 85 years old at the start of the observation period.
Television, dangerous for our line and for our health
The participants were classified into 6 categories, according to their weekly television consumption: low and constant, less than five hours per week (9.7% of participants); low and increasing (22.3%); moderate and decreasing (13.5%); moderate and increasing (30.3%) with consumption having evolved from 10 hours per week to 20 hours per week; high and constant (18.9%); high and increasing, more than 30 hours per week (5.2%).
Results ? Through various tests, the researchers discovered that the excess TV had an impact on the power of the lower muscles – quadriceps, illiac psoas, adductors … few televisions performed better than most of the other groups. “
In June 2017, a British study had already shown that children aged 7 who had a television in their room had on average a body mass index (BMI) above average and an increased risk of obesity by around 30 %. Conclusion: TV, we limit!
